Awhile ago, we posted an article on Cowboys defensive end Marcus Dixon.  The title of that piece was “Overcoming Adversity“–a task Dixon has completed again and again (and not just in his playing career).

We wrote:

Downtrodden. Written off. An underdog.

When the situation seems toughest, though, Marcus has learned to thrive.  While others sulk when times get tough, Dixon has learned to work even harder.  His past, like anyone’s, has not been all smooth sailing.  These experiences and his ability to overcome life’s obstacles, though, are the reasons why he cannot be counted out.  In a way, his past is his future.

In an effort to focus on Dixon’s future, we didn’t get into specifics regarding his rocky past.  Today, Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas posted an outstanding article on Dixon that digs a bit deeper into his journey to the NFL.  For those of you who are interested in learning more about Dixon, we highly recommend reading it.

We are projecting Dixon to ‘overcome adversity’ yet again this season and make the final 53-man roster.

Great story, and I like the guy, rooting for him. However based on this , why is Tony Washington not here? I know it was his sister, and that is really strange. But it was consensual, and it seems his Sex Offender status is overblown. Kids at that age are capable of anything. Same as Dixon.

  2. Washington reportedly has yet to receive a phone call. I have no idea how, to be honest. He deserves a shot though, IMO. Won’t be with Dallas, since Washington wasn’t even on their board.

What a shame in the land of opportunity there is none. He deserves a shot. Give him a minimum contract and see. IMO he is a whole lot more likely to fail with no shot. When hope is gone people become desperate. Look at Pacman, Tank, and now Lawrence Taylor again. How about Big Ben? Man that was/is really shady. Looking in the closet, we all have skeletons. I refuse to cast the first stone.

  4. You sure are right…I would LOVE to sign this kid. Just can’t see any way it happens though.
