Deon Anderson out 2-4 weeks
Cowboys fullback Deon Anderson will be out 2-4 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Undrafted free agent Chris Gronkowski, who was previously on the roster bubble, will take over for Anderson.
The injury is more devastating to Dallas than the casual fan might realize. The Cowboys averaged 5.6 yards-per-carry with Anderson on the field last season, despite his presence tipping defenses to a probable run (they ran the ball 75.2 percent of the time he was on the field).
Anderson is one heck of a lead blocker. The knock on him is that he’s one-dimensional, but who cares? Yeah, Gronkowski can catch the ball and run it from time to time, but the Cowboys have a ton of playmakers on offense already. Anderson provided a unique skill–one that will be sorely missed during his absence.
