Not a great Week 1 for me, as I went 11-5 straight up, 7-8-1 against the spread, and 8-7-1 on totals.  That included going 3-5-1 on my “best bets.”  I will rebound in Week 2.

Notes before reading
  • An’@’ symbol is listed in front of the home team.
  • Game lines alter slightly based on the source.
  • The winner versus the spread is listed in bold.
  • The picks about which I am most certain are denoted with ****
  • I don’t advocate gambling.  These picks are simply for fun (and to prove I’m better than 95 percent of “experts” at picking games).

    Here;s where we differ:

    - I like the Chiefs to cover against the Detroit. Young teams, even talented ones, tend to have a down game after a big win and KC has no where to go but up. Lions squeak by 23-20

    - Bills Raiders is tough. Both won, and the Bills aren’t that good, but I hate west coast teams playing on the east coast. Hunch says Buffalo wins and covers, but I don’t feel great about it. Buffalo 27-21.

    - Seattle at Steelers is another west coast going east thing. 14 and a half is a ton to lay, but I say Pittsburgh blows them out by 20 at least. 38-10 Steelers.

    - I don’t like Minnesota this year with McNabb and Tampa will be mad. Bucs 31-27.

    - No way the Texans aren’t down after the big blowout against the Colts and Sparano is fighting for his job. My lock of the week. Dolphins over Houston 28-24.

Great post JB, thanks. I can’t disagree with most of your picks. The one that surprised me the most was your Raiders pick. Maybe last week was an aberration for the Bills, but like Vince suggested with the west team going east, I can see the Bills winning and covering that one.

    On my “picks”:

Yeah, the Lions squeaked by all right. 48-3 is one hell of a squeak. Chiefs are in serious trouble and Todd Haley’s seat is on fire.

The “rule” holds. Never take a west coast team playing on the east coast. Buffalo 2-0. Break up the Bills!

Steelers 24-0. Man, I should have made this one my lock. I only didn’t because of the huge line. A blind man could see this one coming. Or, everyone EXCEPT JB. Heh heh…

Bucs – Vikes played out pretty much like I thought. I missed on the final score, but not the spread. 24-20.

As soon as I wrote down “lock of the week” I knew I’d jinked myself. Dolphins are not good at all and Sparano is trouble. Lots of trouble.

Cowboys win and looka there, Romo CAN win games on the road in the 4th quarter. Would’a thought? Well, I thought, but many didn’t.
