Pete Prisco of CBS Sports recently released his top 100 players in the NFL. For the most part, the list wasn’t too bad, and it was certainly superior to the NFL’s current Top 100. I couldn’t whittle my list down to 100, so I’m giving you my top 113 current players in the NFL. This list is simply the guys playing the best right now, regardless of age or injury status. It isn’t a list of the most important players, or else quarterbacks would dominate the top of the rankings. Rather, it is my opinion on the most dominant players at their respective positions.

A few notes. . .

  • Rodgers or Brady? They could be 1A and 1B, but I’ll take Rodgers due to his mobility.
  • Many people would put Revis ahead of Ware, but I think Ware’s impact as a pass rusher is superior to Revis at corner. Either way, they’re the game’s two most dominant defenders.
  • Eli Manning is inching toward elite quarterback territory. He’s not at the level of Brees just yet, but he’s not that far behind.
  • Von Miller is one of the best pass-rushing rookies ever. He’ll be top 10 next year.
  • I put LeSean McCoy as the league’s top running back because of his versatility.
  • Tony Romo will be higher on my list than anyone else’s, but I don’t really care. I could see putting Stafford or Vick ahead of him, but who else is really superior to Romo?
  • Rob Gronkowski is now the NFL’s premiere tight end, ahead of Jason Witten.
  • Philip Rivers had a down year, but he’s still a great quarterback.
  • Brent Grimes and Justin Smith are two of the league’s most underrated players.
  • Tyron Smith is one of the NFL’s up-and-coming young talents. He should thrive on the left side in 2012.
  • I was shocked how few defensive tackles made my list, but I don’t know who else to put in there. Ngata and Suh are the two best, but then there’s a drop to Ratliff.
  • Am I being naive about Dez Bryant? Something tells me he is going to go off this season.
