At DMN, I graded my top five defensive players for the Cowboys through the season’s first two weeks.

4. Jason Hatcher

Hatcher has pressured the quarterback via a sack or hurry on 15.2 percent of his snaps. That ranks him second among all five-technique defensive ends, behind only J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans. In a defense that has traditionally used a pretty even rotation at defensive end, Hatcher is now a “full-time” player, receiving 74.6 percent of the defensive snaps through two weeks.

Grade: A-

5. Anthony Spencer

One of my five bold preseason predictions for the Cowboys defense was that Spencer will record at least nine sacks in 2012. Through two games, Spencer has two sacks and has reached the quarterback more than Ware. Spencer doesn’t receive the attention that Ware does, of course, but he looks primed to cash in on the opportunities the opposition gives him this season.

Grade: A-
