Cowboys continue to increase rate of weak side runs
At Dallas News, I examined the Cowboys’ increasing usage of weak side runs.
In 2009, the Cowboys averaged 5.2 YPC when running to the weak side. Back then, though Garrett dialed up weak side runs on just 19.5 percent of the team’s rushes that utilized an unbalanced formation. We saw more of the same from the Cowboys in 2010 and 2011, with the offense totaling 4.6 YPC on weak side runs (compared to 3.7 YPC on strong side runs). Over that time, Garrett’s rate of weak side run calls increased dramatically to 35.8 percent.
