3 Things to Watch for Dallas in the Preseason

One of the three things I’ll be watching for the Cowboys this preseason:

3. Who will win out between Doug Free and Jermey Parnell at right tackle?

In my 2012 grades for Free and Parnell, I graded Parnell much higher. He allowed five sacks in limited snaps, but that was a bit of a fluke since Parnell’s pressure rate was about 33 percent lower than Free’s. Parnell was also far superior as a run blocker, with Cowboys running backs averaging 5.06 YPC with him at the point-of-attack (compared to 2.58 YPC behind Free).

The Cowboys will face an excellent and very diverse group of pass-rushers in the preseason in Cameron Wake, Calais Campbell, Michael Johnson, J.J. Watt, and others. I expect Parnell to outplay Free, but the former’s lack of experience makes it difficult to predict his future.
