More on Cowboys’ Points Per Drive

At Dallas News, I published a comparison of the Cowboys’ total yards versus points per drive:

Dallas has ranked 10th in PPD in 2012, which is historically around where they’ve been under Jason Garrett—good, but not great. Below, I charted the Cowboys’ ranks in PPD and total yards each year since Garrett took over as the offensive coordinator. Note that a lower-numbered rank is obviously better.

In five of the six years Garrett has been in Dallas, the Cowboys have ranked better in total yards than PPD. That’s a problem; you obviously need to accumulate yards in order to score points, but at the end of the day, the yards don’t matter. You need to get the ball into the end zone.

  1. Pounda says:

Garrett is wasting the offensive talent of this team. He needs to learn how to confuse defenses, not blindly attack their strength over and over. Good grief.
