Today’s sample comes from my original book Fantasy Football for Smart People: How to Dominate Your Draft:

While selecting specific individual players to start each week won’t necessarily increase a team’s volatility, pairing particular players together can do the trick. Specifically, pairing a quarterback and a wide receiver (or tight end) who are on the same NFL team inherently increases risk, as the success of the latter is based on the former.

Increasing risk can’t be a good thing, can it? For bad teams, yes. If your team is consistently scoring below the league average in points, do everything you can to increase its volatility. If the mean point total in your league is 100 and you average just 75, consistently scoring 75 points will rarely net you a win. If you greatly enhance the inherent “risk” associated with your team and score 130 points from time to time, you’ll at least gather a handful of victories.

You can buy How to Dominate Your Draft in KindlePDF, or paperback.
