I’ve been fishing for a very long time, definitely longer than I’d like to admit, since that will show my age. I started fly fishing before anyone made a product to carry basic fishing rods, let alone fly fishing rods. I can say from experience that since these products now exist, it makes traveling with fly fishing rods a lot easier.
I’m retired, so instead of going fly fishing on weekends when most people are able to do it, I take two to three days during the week to get out there. It’s great because places are less crowded, things aren’t as hectic and there’s more space to fish. Since I go so often, it made sense for me to invest in some type of rod carrier.
Initially, I went and ordered one that I thought would be decent, because it was by another brand that I recognized. As it turned out, I didn’t like it much. It was noisy and I was always worried that it was going to fly off the roof of my vehicle. I returned it within a month and took a different approach to finding the right thing.
I asked around to my fellow fly fishermen and scoured the internet for information as well. I was happy with those products, and according to my research and preference of friends, I’d be happy with this as well.
To say that I’m satisfied with the product would be a gross understatement. To be perfectly honest, I take the fly fishing rods out only when I’m actually setting up for or going fishing. In the meantime, I just keep them stored in the carrier while not in use. If I need to take them off of the truck, I just store them in the garage.
Looking back on all of the years where I had to either lay my rods diagonally and everything around it very strategically, put seats down and lay them next to me, or secure them into the bed of a truck, I’m really happy with the existence of this product.
It’s a lot less likely that my fly fishing rods will be broken by some silly mishap, and it frees up space in the car. Not to mention how annoying it is to have those rods right next to me. I always get freaked out by something moving in my peripheral vision. Not the safest thing while concentrating on driving.
Now I have ordered a handful of products from Trouts Fly Fishing. I have been very pleased with the outcome of all of my purchases with them. I’d highly recommend the Riversmith River Quiver Rod Carrier to everyone- seasoned or new at the sport, and that’s coming from an old school fisherman.
